WFUV Names Rich McLaughlin As Content Director For New Channel;

To Begin Hosting New Pilot Program

New York, NY—Public radio station WFUV (90.7 FM, wfuv.org) today announced the appointment of Rich McLaughlin as Content Director for its forthcoming HD Radio music channel and web stream.  McLaughlin’s responsibilities will include programming, curatorial and on-air duties. McLaughlin comes to WFUV after seven years at Sirius Satellite Radio, where he was responsible for developing, programming and hosting two popular alternative rock channels, “Alt Nation” and “Left of Center,” as well as specialty shows. McLaughlin holds a B.A. in Communications from Fordham University and received much of his broadcasting training while working at WFUV as a Fordham undergraduate.

“I’m happy to be back at WFUV, my favorite radio station.  We're going to create a new channel that’s going to change the way New Yorkers discover music and I’m excited to be part of such an ambitious project,” said McLaughlin.

“Rich has a huge reputation as a smart, forward-thinking programmer. We're really excited to have him back at WFUV, where he'll bring all this experience and his many talents to the new project and help ensure its success,” said WFUV Program Director Chuck Singleton. The first of several staffers to be hired for the service, McLaughlin joins WFUV on April 28, and will begin producing and hosting the new pilot program “This Is Only A Test” on Friday, May 9.

A companion to WFUV's highly acclaimed flagship programming, which will continue in its present format, the soon-to-be-titled new service will provide the city’s burgeoning indie music scene with a full-time local radio outlet and connect artists and music lovers in New York and across the globe.  The new channel will be available at wfuv.org and on HD Radio at 90.7 FM in the New York City area beginning in Fall 2008. The service is supported in part by The New York State Music Fund, established by the New York State Attorney General at Rockefeller Philanthropy Advisors.  It will also feature a unique social networking website, created with support from the Public Media Innovation Fund of the Corporation for Public Broadcasting.

WFUV is a non-commercial, listener-supported public radio station, licensed to Fordham University for 60 years. Serving nearly 350,000 listeners each week in the New York area and thousands more worldwide on the web, and a leader in contemporary music radio, WFUV offers an eclectic mix of rock, singer-songwriters, blues, world and other music, plus headlines from National Public Radio, local news and sports.
